Family Navigation services assess the needs of families with children 0-5 and connect them to community resources. This strengths-based approach to partnering with families aims to increase parents’ knowledge and use of local resources utilizing the Colorado Family Support Assessment (CFSA 2.0) with the Family Pathways Framework (FPF) developed by Colorado’s Family Resource Center Association (FRCA).

First Born and More is a multi-generational, relationship-based, culturally sensitive, and family-centered home visiting program designed to support families during pregnancy and in the early years of a child’s life by helping parents/caregivers create a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment for their child. This program’s approach provides relevant, practical, and reflective resources that support families learning in the areas of health, wellness, development, safety, and overall family stability.

FirstDay Learning: Behavior Bootcamp

Behavior Bootcamp is a 2-day professional development event appropriate for a variety of professionals, including home visitors, classroom staff, instructional coaches, and admin/directors. Behavior Bootcamp introduces participants to principles of behavioral health that are crucial to creating happy & confident teachers who can respond appropriately to challenging behavior.

FirstDay Learning: Campfire Coaching

Campfire Coaching professional development sessions use small group meetings to provide an ongoing, practice-based cycle in three stages: Learn & Plan, Implement & Practice, Debrief & Reflect .

Foster Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement (FosterCARE) is an adaptation of CARE specifically designed to meet the needs of foster parents/caregivers. Foster parents/caregivers receive trauma-informed training to develop skills for improving attachment and/or strengthening relationships while reducing mild to moderate behavior concerns, and for increasing compliance. FosterCARE is a training course that follows the same curriculum as CARE but is specifically delivered with foster parents/caregivers. Trauma psychoeducation is incorporated in some of the skills taught to foster caregivers.

Community-based doula program providing trauma-informed, extended, intensive support to birthing families prenatally, during labor, and postpartum to assist with breastfeeding, attachment, and early parenting.

Healthy Families America (HFA) is a home visiting program developed to work with families who may have histories of trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health issues and/or substance abuse issues. Focus on prenatal support, family goal planning, family service planning, strengthening parent-child interaction, parent support and education, child development information, and health and safety information. Program activities identify existing service gaps and supports families through relationship-building strategies that are strengths-based, family-centered, culturally responsive, and reflective.

Universal home visiting program for all parents/caregivers, including those facing obstacles such as poverty, social isolation, a lack of education, or other concerns. HIPPY home visitors work with parents/caregivers to help them become their child’s first teacher and prepare their children for success in school through activities focused on their development and cognitive/reading skills.

Intensive home visiting services provided by a professional trained to support families with children ages birth to 2 years using the Partners for a Healthy Baby (PHB) curriculum.

Incredible Years (IY) Preschool Parenting Program (Basic) is a parent education program promoting positive parenting strategies to promote children’s academic, social, and emotional skills and reduce conduct problems in children ages 3-6 years. Preschool Basic also reduces parents’ symptoms of depression, stress, and anger.

Incredible Years (IY) Teacher Classroom Management (TCM) is a prevention program designed to strengthen teacher classroom management strategies and promote children’s prosocial behaviors and school readiness (reading skills).

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn is a weekly facilitated playgroup model for Family, Friend and Neighbor caregivers and parents to support them in preparing children for success in school and life by providing caregivers with support, information, and resources to support children’s early learning and healthy development.

Kindermusik's music and movement studio classes are designed for parents/caregivers and their young children to support their child’s achievement of developmental milestones through an engaging, interactive group meeting.

Lactation Consultation

Lactation consultation is provided by International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Lactation Consultants offer support, advice and guidance to people who choose to breastfeed and can help with painful nipples, milk supply, breastfeeding positions and other common nursing problems. Lactation Peer Support Groups

Lactation peer support groups are informal meetings for pregnant and breastfeeding people facilitated by trained support group leaders and supported by licensed medical or health care providers, such as International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Together, these professionals provide ongoing lactation care and intervention, address mothers’ concerns and provide opportunities for mother-to-mother support. Lantern, formerly known as Bright by Text (BBT), is a nationwide text messaging service that encourages parents and caregivers to make the most of their interactions with their children. Text nudges provide information to parents and caregivers about child development, health, and well-being. Messages are customized to the child’s age and include tips, information, games, and resources. Optional features for customized messages based on location.

LearnERS CQI is a professional development tool based on the Environment Rating Scales that provides learning and continuous quality improvement opportunities. Learners CQI is designed for program directors, educators, family child care networks, and technical assistants (TAs) who serve as coaches.

LENA Grow is a data-driven, practice-based professional development program powered by LENA’s “talk pedometer” technology to help early childhood educators improve classroom language environments equitably.

Engages families and helps them learn how to increase conversation with their children during the first few years of life. Families use LENA technology (“talk pedometer”) to measure the child’s language environment, explore data through personalized, actionable feedback reports, and discuss research-based strategies with their peers to increase the quality and quantity of talk at home.

Mobility Mentoring is a participant-directed coaching model and tools provided by EMPath. Mentors are partnered with participating parents/caregivers to support them in attaining the resources, skills, and long-term behaviors necessary to reach and preserve economic independence.

A credentialed music therapy professional uses music as an intervention to achieve individualized child-focused goals in a therapeutic setting.

NC Pre-K Enhancements Non TANF/CCDF

Financial assistance paid on a direct per child basis for the purpose of enhancing the NC Pre-K rate for children enrolled in and being served through NC Pre-K and whose families are not eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligible or the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF). Data will be reported as directed by DCDEE. Does not include wrap-around care. For children who also receive wrap-around care, the additional subsidy is funded under PSC 2347. Expenditures in this activity do not count towards the LP's TANF/CCDF expenditure mandate requirement.

Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a community health program designed to provide first-time moms with a supportive, caring relationship with their nurse through regular home visits from pregnancy to their child’s second birthday. NFP strives to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, and the economic self-sufficiency of the family.

Nurturing Skills for Families is an expansive, competency-based model of the Nurturing Parenting Programs (NPP) that combines information from other NPP models to provide flexibility to meet the needs of families with children ranging in age from prenatal to 19 years old (note that Smart Start funds are limited to the prenatal to 5 age range). This model uses a preliminary assessment to identify family needs and develop a customized program that meets their unique needs.
